Binsar the small hamlet once the capital of the Chand Raj kings who ruled during the 11th to 18th centuries over Kumaon, is situated at a height of 2412M, 33 km north of the Almora town in the Uttarakhand State on top of the Jhandi Dhar hills.
The famous Shiva Temple with an excellent example of great architecture called Bineswar Mahadev Temple, built by the King Kalyan in ancient times. One can see the 300 km panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks from Binsar like Kedarnath Peak, Shivling, Trisul and majestic Nanda Devi from a place called 'Zero Point'. The place is surrounded by thick vegetation and forest on all sides and it is around 20 km from Ranikhet and nearly 70 km away from Almora city. Kasar Devi Temple is located at a distance of around 9 km from the Binsar once the house for Dutch Monk from 1970 to early 80s. Binsar is rich in flora and fauna, surrounded by abundant garlands of alpine flora, ferns, hanging moss and many other species of wild flowers. The Wildlife Sanctuary which is spread over 45.59 KM, has inhabits of over 200 species of birds, deer, leopard, and also home to many reptiles and innumerable invertebrates including a wide range of Butterflies.
The Binsar hills are rich in ancient relics, near Dinapani on the Almora-Binsar road, there is a point called Pariyadeva-Pashan where there is a long stone with cup-marks. According to Historians these cup Shaped marks belong to Megalithic Age.

Road-connectivity is fairly good as Almora and the nearest airport is at Pantnagar, 127 km away and the nearest railway station is located at Kathgodam at a distance of 85 kms.
