Location : A small hill town of Chamba district with nearest broad-gauge rail station at Pathankot 120 KM. It is at the north-western part of Himachal Pradesh. At an altitude of 1960 M above mean sea level the oval shaped valley of Khajjiar is famous for its tranquility and natural beauty.
General description : The place is fully covered with evergreen long trees with a large meadow and a lake. The lake has a floating island and the people believe that 'Khajianaug', the snake god lives in the lake. The temple of Khajianaug built in 12th century is situated adjacent to the lake. The temple has excellent carvings and the top is covered with gold. The Deodar tree with 17 trunks is famous for its typical variety. The tourists can visit Kalatop at 2440 M from where the magnificent view of snow covered Dhauladhar range is seen. The Kalatop-Khajjiar wild life sanctuary of about 69 Sq Km. is also not very far off. the Accommodation facility is available at the forest bunglow.

Transport : Pathankot rail station at 120 KM from Khajjiar is an important rail head on Northern.Railway and connected to various cities in the country. To reach Khajjiar, it is convenient for the tourists from Delhi and beyond to avail of the train service. The buses and taxis are plenty available at the staion to take the travellers to Khajjiar. The buses come from Dalhousie 22 KM and Chamba 24 KM. Himachal Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (HPTDC) also copducts day tour during rush season from Dalhousie to Khajjiar i.e. from 9 AM to 3 PM.
