Location : Jwalamukhi (Altitude 610 M), a famous Hindu pilgrimage town in Kangra district, is 54 KM south of Dharamsala. Jwalamukhi Road and Jwalamukhi or Jwalaji are 30 KM apart. Kangra is 36 KM away.The narrow gauge train from Pathankot stops at Jwalamukhi Road Station and the tourists can travel 30 KM by bus to reach Jwalamukhi. Chintpurni (Altitude 940 M) is 35 KM from Jwalaji.
General description : Jwalamukhi is recognized as one of the 51 Shatipithas. The eternal blue flame burning in the earth's fissure is worshipped by the people from all over the country. It is believed as manifestation of Goddess, Jwalamukhi. The picturesque temple is one of the most sacred place in North India. The Katoch ruler, Raja Bhoomi Chand had built the first temple there. Mughal Emperor Akbar had visited the place and installed the golden parasol. But the golden metal turned into iron as the folk lore had it. The interior of the gold plated domed temple is pain and without any image. The natural flame is worshipped believing that as lapping tongue of Sati (Goddess Shakti). These flame is believed to be nine manifestations of the Devi i.e. Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Ambika, Chandika, Annapurna, Hinglaj, Saraswati, Anjina and Vindyavasini.
Chintpurni is sacred place for Hindus. It is famous for the Chhinnamasta Temple where the deity is Goddess Bhagawati. The people worship before Goddess at the temple with a believe of fulfillment of their wishes.
